Board of Trustees

Role Description

Roundabout trustees have overall responsibility for the work that we do. They delegate the day-to-day work of supporting young people to our highly experienced management and staff team, making sure that we fulfil our legal responsibilities as an organisation and that we have a clear set of goals, doing what we were set up to do.

Our trustees come from a variety of backgrounds, sharing their skills and knowledge in a voluntary capacity. Here’s a bit more information about them !

John Caldwell

Chair of Trustees

John has been a trustee of Roundabout since 1999, for most of that period as Treasurer trustee due to his expertise in finance. John graduated in Law at Sheffield University and subsequently qualified as a Chartered accountant. He is now retired, but has been finance director of several large public and private sector businesses in the South Yorkshire region and has also worked abroad in the international charity sector.

Karen Moxham

Deputy Chair of Trustees

Karen has been a Trustee for Roundabout since 2017. A Radiographer by background, Karen is a senior manager in the NHS and has managerial experience from both the private and public healthcare sectors. Her particular areas of interest are Leadership, Strategy and Governance and Risk Management. Karen has undertaken various volunteer roles, including 10 years with the Samaritans.

Liz Arundale

Trustee

Liz has been a Trustee of Roundabout since 2003 and is a former Chair. She has a people management background from her early career in the retail industry. She is currently a member of the Local Education Authority Independent Appeals Panel and a Justice of the Peace sitting in both the Adult and Youth courts.

Scott Bailey

Trustee

Scott has been a trustee for Roundabout since 2009. He is a local entrepreneur and businessman and has been a passionate supporter of Roundabout throughout his time as trustee. Scott is proud to be trustee of a charity that has preventing youth homelessness as a fundamental objective.

Kevin Docherty

Trustee

Kevin has been a trustee with Roundabout since 2005. He is now retired, but was previously a Partner with a large national law firm specialising in real estate and managing the legal aspects of a number of property portfolios. Kevin is also currently a Charity trustee with a photographic gallery in Bradford.

Joel Hanna

Trustee

Joel has been a trustee of Roundabout since 2017. He began working in local government children’s services in 1992 and since that time he has worked with children, young people and young adults in a range of services and provided advocacy and support for young people in residential care and those involved with the criminal justice system. He holds a Professional Social Work Qualification, Qualifying Law Degree LLB (Hons) and a Diploma in Management. He is committed to supporting young people achieve their potential and access their rights to social justice.

Julie MacDonald, DL

Trustee

Julie became a Trustee of Roundabout in 2017 and is also a Trustee of Sheffield Town Trust. She has also served as a Trustee of The Children’s Hospital Charity and of South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation, where she was Deputy-Chair from 2017-24. She is also a Patron of Sheffield Young Careers. Julie was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 2014 and, in 2024, was appointed as the Lead Deputy-Lieutenant for Sheffield.  She served as the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire from 2016-17. Julie has been involved with the Girl Guide movement since she was a child and has Rainbow, Brownie and Guide companies. She was Girlguiding Sheffield’s County Commissioner from 2009-2014 and has been the Lead Volunteer for Girlguiding U.K.’s National Archive Project since 2018.

Amar Tembe

Trustee

Amar has been a trustee for Roundabout since 2017. This is his first role as a trustee and he is very proud and honoured to so contribute. Following his law degree he trained at the Bar and has worked for both private and public employers dealing with criminal law, litigation matters involving children in care, planning law and employment law. Amar heads up the Northern Region of Make UK (EEF Ltd) in relation to its delivery of human resources and employment law to foster better employee relations and good practice.

Tim Castle

Trustee

Tim has been a long-term supporter of Roundabout, both through his business, and personally, and became a trustee in 2023. Tim’s professional skills have been gained through 45 years of working within the construction and property industries, with 21 of these years as a business owner and Managing Director of his own business.

Nicholas Barrett

Trustee

Nick became a trustee of Roundabout in 2023. He has a background in IT and people management within the private sector, as well as having experience in a number of other sectors. Nick was appointed a magistrate in 2009 and sits in the Youth and Adult courts in South Yorkshire.

Cheryl Kemanci

Trustee

Cheryl specialises in strategic responses to help disengaged young people, predominantly aged 15-24yrs old, to get back into education, employment or training via her role at Sheffield City Council. Cheryl joined as a trustee in 2023, and one of her aims is to help enable strategic and operational connectivity into education, employment and training for Roundabout and its young people.

Katie Ellis

Trustee

Katie has been an avid supporter of Roundabout for many years, becoming a trustee in 2023. Through her role at Sheffield University, she has worked collaboratively alongside Roundabout’s Homeless Prevention Team and St Barnabas Hostel to explore the experiences of homelessness for young people in Sheffield, helping the organisation engage with local policy makers and practitioners.
