About Roundabout Rapid Rehousing

At Roundabout, we’re on a mission to ensure that no young person under 25 has to experience sleeping rough. Our Rapid Rehousing programme is a vital part of this commitment, designed to reach out to vulnerable young people who may not seek help through traditional channels.

In 2018, we noticed a gap in our services. Despite our Homeless Prevention Service being available for anyone needing support and advice, we saw a concerning trend of young rough sleepers in Sheffield aged under 25. These individuals became our immediate priority.

To address this urgent need, we created our Rapid Rehousing street outreach team. These dedicated workers venture into the community, actively identifying homeless young people who require intensive support.

The young people we work with often have complex needs that make accessing mainstream housing and homeless services challenging. They may have experienced childhood trauma, ongoing health issues, or have undiagnosed conditions. Additionally, they can be vulnerable to exploitation by older homeless individuals and may be wary of seeking help due to past negative experiences.

Our dedicated staff members go above and beyond, braving all weather conditions to engage with these young people. Sometimes, it’s as simple as sitting on the ground with them, patiently working to establish trust over weeks, so we can eventually encourage and support them to leave the streets behind and move into one of our properties.

Once in our properties, these young individuals receive wrap-around support from our staff and other specialist services. Our focus is on initiating the healing and recovery process, allowing them to start living meaningful lives in their own homes.

Rapid Rehousing is more than just providing shelter; it’s about empowering young people to rebuild their lives.
